Collaborations for Future at The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute.
The Exhibition is going on Tour
Our journey to spark meaningful dialogue on the climate crisis is gaining momentum! Ten Brave Attempts To Do Something In Response To The Climate Crisis—our exhibition that first debuted at Foundation We Are in Eindhoven—is now making its way across the Netherlands. And our first stop? The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), where we’re bringing our insights straight to the heart of climate science.
“Ten Brave Attempts To Do Something In Response To The Climate Crisis” Takes the Climate Conversation to KNMI
Our journey to spark meaningful dialogue about the climate crisis is picking up speed! Ten Brave Attempts To Do Something In Response To The Climate Crisis—the exhibition that first came to life at Foundation We Are in Eindhoven—is now traveling across the Netherlands. And where better to make our first stop than at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), the heart of climate science in the country?
This move isn’t just about showcasing our work in a new space—it’s about engaging directly with the people who dedicate their lives to studying and understanding climate change. At KNMI, meteorologists, researchers, and climate scientists track shifting weather patterns, model future climate scenarios, and contribute to the global conversation on what’s happening to our planet. Now, with Ten Brave Attempts on-site, we have the chance to bring a different perspective into their world—one shaped by creativity, emotion, and storytelling.
Bridging Science and Art
At Foundation We Are, we believe that climate change isn’t just a scientific or political issue—it’s a human one. The way we talk about it, process it, and engage people outside the scientific community matters just as much as the data itself. That’s why this exhibition exists: to create space for different voices, perspectives, and approaches to climate action. Science gives us the facts, but art helps us understand them on a deeper level.
Having Ten Brave Attempts at KNMI means more than just putting up an exhibition—it’s an opportunity for dialogue. How do scientists see the role of art in climate communication? What can artists learn from those who work with climate data every day? And how can these different approaches come together to inspire action? These are the kinds of questions we hope to explore throughout this collaboration.
A conversation that matters
Alongside the exhibition itself, KNMI will also be hosting a special colloquium featuring a conversation between our head researcher, Alex Szwaj, and climate scientist Frank Stelten. Frank has been instrumental in KNMI’s sustainability efforts and played a key role in the Collaborations for Future programme, which helped kickstart a movement to make KNMI a climate-neutral institution.
This discussion is a chance to explore how institutions like KNMI can push forward meaningful climate action—not just through research, but through leadership, collaboration, and creative approaches to engagement. It’s also a moment to reflect on what it means to respond to the climate crisis, both as individuals and as organizations.
Bringing Ten Brave Attempts to KNMI is a reminder of why we started this project in the first place. The climate crisis is urgent, and yet, for many, it still feels distant—something for policymakers and scientists to figure out. But climate change is already shaping our world in real and tangible ways, and it affects all of us, whether we realize it or not.
That’s why we believe in using art to bridge the gap between knowledge and action. By making space for personal stories, emotions, and creative responses, we hope to open up the conversation in new ways—ways that invite people to engage, reflect, and, ultimately, act.
We’re incredibly grateful to KNMI for welcoming this exhibition and for being open to these conversations. And this is just the beginning! As Ten Brave Attempts continues its journey, we look forward to seeing where it takes us next—both in terms of locations and in the conversations it sparks.
The movement for meaningful climate action is growing. And we’re honored to be part of it. Stay tuned for more updates as our exhibition makes its way across the Netherlands!
